It will come as no surprise to the grandmothers of the world to find that behind some of the very best pasta in Montreal is a small army of nonnas infusing every batch of their artisanal pasta and sauces with generous helpings of tradition.
Casa dei Ravioli opened in 1975, but its story begins with a friendship between two brothers-in-law.
Born in Italy, Benito was the first in his family to come to Canada. Recognizing a gap in the market for traditional Italian pasta, he encouraged his brother-in-law Joseph, a pasta maker with 15 years of experience in Torino, to team up with him in Montreal. Their wives soon joined them in the endeavour, and together they earned a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship.
Nearly half a century later, their respective sons Max, Giancarlo, and Luigi have inherited the business. And they insist on maintaining a top-notch calibre of product.
Luigi Paralovo, co-owner of Casa dei Ravioli says Italian cooking is rooted in tradition, and that’s what he intends to pass down to the next generation.

Casa dei Ravioli’s reputation is so good that when Goodfood co-founder, Raffi Krikorian, was looking to partner with a fresh pasta maker for his burgeoning business, he came directly to Casa dei Ravioli.
“He told me he was looking for the highest quality pasta,” co-owner Luigi says, beaming. “I told him, you came to the right place.” Ten years later, the partnership is still flourishing.
